Overview

The use of Infrared Thermography (IRT) using measurements of surface temperature to monitor condition and diagnose faults in civil, mechanical and electrical systems has become a key activity in predictive maintenance programmes for most industries.

The effectiveness of these programmes depends on the capability of individuals who perform the measurements and analyse the data.

TCAT I teaches the necessary skills for industrial infrared thermography measurements, basic fault detection and severity assessment using established procedures.

Internationally recognised

SVT’s TCAT Thermography courses comply with International Standards ISO 18436-1, ISO 18436-3, ISO 18436-7, ISO/IEC 17024, ASNT SNT TC 1A and offer optional certification by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT).

  • Apply a specific thermographic measurement technique
  • Setup and operate thermal imaging equipment for safe data collection
  • Prevent, minimise or control poor data and error sources
  • Perform basic fault detection, severity assessment and diagnosis in accordance with established instructions
  • Perform basic image post processing
  • Maintain a database of results and trends
  • Verify the calibration of thermographic measurement systems
  • Evaluate and report test results and highlight areas of concern
  • Recognise, control and prevent factors that result in the acquisition of poor quality data
  • Supervise and instruct level 1 and 2 duties

These skills will enable them to perform thermographic measurement and recognise general faults across a broad range of plant and equipment.
